About F2

F2 is based in New Zealand and is a small showcase of images showing little informal snippets of life in New Zealand, the Pacific, USA, and Japan. There will be images of natural disasters, adventure, and everyday life.

The images are part of an eclectic and random accumulation resulting from gifts, rescues of stuff going to the dump, and online purchases. Each image will have had significance to someone in its day, but now?

A significant part of the collection is late 19thC New Zealand photographs take by Auckland photographer. Another part is a photographic record of an early 20thC inland road trip from Wellington to Auckland. There are glass plate negatives of what look like late 19thC families plus plates and negatives from the first half of the 20thC. In the post-war period there are photographs and slides of New Zealand and the Pacific on in the days when baby-boomers were much much younger.

Beyond this are negatives of Japanese family life pre-WWII, a road-trip through the USA (late 1920’s?) showing cars, people and places, plus random images for when posts start to look samey.

Many of the older images have deteriorated with time which meant that after scanning the result was of low or poor quality. These have been enhanced for better viewing and so what you see is often better than the original but can be far from the perfection of a modern day digital photograph.

Some images are full of uncertainty as to when and where they were taken, by whom, and who or what is in them. If you think you know please make contact.
